SA-TECH is currently looking for an Sheet Metal Technician V to join our APSD-CSS team to perform non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project.
Typical Duties: Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project.
Selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, or layouts, contacts personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate the work.
Reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical work of others.
A supervisor or professional engineer outlines objectives, requirements, and design approaches.
Completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements.
Manages workload and plans assignments of others.
Reviews, analyzes, develops, prepares or applies engineering, technical or maintenance specifications, policies, standards, or procedures.
Organizes, analyzes, and prepares reports or presentation of technical data and information.
Plans and performs tests and evaluations on systems, equipment or components.
Compiles, processes, reduces, and analyzes test data and results.
Performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity using operational precedents which are not fully applicable.
Provides technical guidance to lower-level technicians.
Is considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in aircraft sheet metal work.
Performs repair, fabrication, modification, and installation of sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies.
Works from brief oral or written instructions, pictures, tentative drawings and rough sketches.
Sheet metal technician work requires knowledge of the physical properties and working characteristics of sheet metal, knowledge of tools and equipment required in the sheet metal trade, and knowledge of shop mathematics and principles.
Most items are complex and require coordinating the work of several skilled trades in completing specialized work segments.
Work Conditions: Work will be performed in enclosed buildings for the most part.
Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
Work involves interaction, coordination and collaboration with others in an office environment while maintaining professional etiquette.
Requirements: Education/Experience/Skills: High School diploma or equivalent required (no substitutions allowed).
In addition to the educational requirement above, a minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience with the stated functions is also required.
Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.

DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.

APSD’s artisans, engineers, project and support staff, and design/manufacturing equipment are housed in 60,000 square feet of engineering and shop facilities and 90,000 square feet of installation facilities at the Aircraft Prototype Facility (APF) at the Naval Air Warfare Center in Patuxent River, MD.
APSD provides the people, processes, technologies, infrastructure, facilities, tooling, skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to develop aircraft integration designs and certify critical airworthiness artifacts, engineering data, and technical data packages with associated manufacturing and installation activities for programs and activities as part of the prototype maturation process leading up to low-rate initial production.
This includes project management, systems engineering, research and analysis, electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical/structural engineering, reverse engineering, airworthiness analysis and documentation, mechanical and electrical fabrication, and flight certification coordination in support of the installation of these tests, systems, and capabilities into military and commercial derivative aircraft.
