Insulator: Plumber Helper
JOB SUMMARY
Based on the needs of the Plumbing Department and the time of year, assists Mechanics with new installation, repairs on all types of insulation, plumbing, and mechanical systems to aid in controlling noise and maintaining systems for domestic water, fire suppression, and cooling and heating systems.
Additional Work Days/Hours Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed: Ability to work flexible schedules Emergencies Evenings/Nights Extended hours Holidays Inclement weather conditions On call Outside of normal business hours Overtime as needed Peak season Shift work Summer hours Weekends ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Covers or seals insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation according to the type of insulation used and structure that is being covered.
Covers, seals or finishes insulated surfaces or access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or asphalt mastic.
Fits and installs different types of insulation materials around pipes, ductwork, equipment, structures and install protective coverings such as applications consisting of plastic, sheet metal, and canvas as required.
Prepares surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading adhesives, cement, mastic and asphalt or by attaching metal pins to surfaces.
Measures and cuts insulation for covering surfaces utilizing industry standard hand tools.
Assists in the repair and replacement of plumbing and mechanical systems.
Cuts, fits, and joins piping such as copper, PVC, steel, and grooved and cast-iron and determines quantity of materials required to complete daily assigned tasks.
Determines quantity of materials required to complete daily assigned tasks.
Respond to emergency situations.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Ability to learn commonly used plumbing and insulation practices and concepts.
Ability to learn procedures and regulations pertaining to hazardous materials.
Ability to learn commercial plumbing and mechanical systems such as flush valves, faucets, and pumps and connecting all types of piping.
Ability to learn to make independent judgments and decisions within established parameters.
Ability to learn the content of and skill in reading, interpreting and applying work orders, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, drawings and specifications, and manufacturers manuals.
Ability to practice and enforce safety regulations applicable to work performed.
Knowledge to safely use all standard plumbing and insulation hand tools required to perform work associated with tasks as outlined in this job description.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
