JOB SUMMARY Supervises the work crews engaged in the installation and maintenance of streets, water, sewers, storm water, beaches, grounds and buildings.
Prepares all documentation of work orders, daily work sheets and assigns the work orders to the crew members.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Directs workers engaged in: grading and resurfacing of roadways, parking areas, excavation of sewer and water trenches, storm drains, sewer and sediment control outfalls, and snow removal.
Performs repairs on water, sewer and storm water infrastructure.
Assist with beach ramps and crossings.
Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies.
Inspects completed work orders.
Studies production schedules and estimates employee hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
Interprets city policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
Maintains time and production records.
Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
Trains workers and activities of workers supervised.
Assists in the preparation of departmental budget.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises up to five (5) to ten (10) full-time employees.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the city's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
